Team News: SRR/KART NATION - Weekend Report PDF Print E-mail
Thursday, 21 May 2009 12:04

The STUART ROBINSON RACING/KART NATION RACE TEAM was in Oklahoma at the beautiful Oklahoma Motorsports Complex for the second round of the SOUTHWEST REGIONAL CUP Series.  This event was packed with over 180 entries in 11 classes.

The SRR/KART NATION Team entered in 6 classes with 11 drivers Micro Max, Mini Max, Rotax Jr. Rotax Masters, Tag Cadet, and Tag Jr.

In Micro Max, Factory SRR driver Max Hewitt qualified in 3rd  place which is also where he finished in the pre-final.  In the final Hewitt displayed excellent driving and ran third for the first half of the race but had a bobble in the back and fell back to 7th. With determination and skill Hewitt fought his way from 7th and grabbed a strong 4th place finish!

Mini Max was the largest class of the weekend with 19 entries.  Factory SRR drivers in this class were Tim Reger, Nic Reger, and Bucky Hewitt.  This race was a great team effort that everyone enjoyed watching.  Tim Reger was fast from the beginning and qualified 4th with Nic 9th and Bucky 11th.  The Final was tough and Bucky was plagued with some motor issues but he made the best of the situation to bring home a top ten finish. Nic ran upfront all race but due to contact on the last couple laps finished 5th. Tim Reger was on point and gave the boys from the Florida based RDD Team a taste of the talent and speed of our drivers.  Tim was the fastest kart on track and finished on podium in second only a hair away from first.  It was an incredible race for Reger and all of the Kart Mini boys.

Alex Udell #261 Rotax Junior at Oklahoma Motorsports COmplex Rotax Junior entries included Factory SRR Race team drivers Alec Udell, CJ Cramm, and Bristol Gunderson.  All three drivers ran upfront and contact free all weekend.  In qualifying it was Udell off pole by a tenth, and Gunderson and Cramm inside the top ten.  Gunderson had a flawless run up to finish inside the top 5 while Cramm battled hard for 8th with major improvement all weekend.  Alec Udell (SRR/KART NATION TOP KART), Sebastian Ordonez (RDD KART MINI), and Jake French (Champion Intrepid) put on a class act race hard fought and no contact for all 15 laps with Udell leading most of the race but lap traffic came into play on the last lap which forced Udell into a 2nd place finish.

Rotax Masters had Factory SRR/KART NATION drivers Jason Payne and Dave Pergande.  An eventful race for sure.  In qualifying it was Pergande 3rd and Payne 6th.  The final was non-stop passing and exciting to watch as Pergande brought it home and took a podium spot in 3rd and Payne finishing in 4th.  Both raced like gentlemen all race weekend and were a lot of fun to watch.

Tag Cadet was Micheal DeHerde.  DeHerde improved dramatically this weekend finishing his first SWRC prefinal in 3rd. He Excelled this weekend and will definitely be an upfront runner for the next round.

Tag Jr. had Factory SRR/KART NATION driver Colin Haun on his Top Kart.  Haun was fast all weekend and drove an excellent race.  Colin’s Top Kart looked fierce as he qualified on pole.  The prefinal brought bad luck with Haun having a mechanical issue on the warm up lap and he was not able to start the prefinal.  But this was the race to watch and Haun did not let his misfortune deter him in the final.  Haun started dead last in the final and with his smooth driving and smart passes he finished on the podium in 3rd.  Logan Bearden on his KART NATION Prepared Leopard qualified second and won the pre-final.  Bearden was flying on his KN Leopard when he captured the second place finish.

The STUART ROBINSON RACING (SRR) Race Team would like to thank its sponsors and crew for all of their hard work to make this happen.

Sponsors: Grand Products, Top Kart, Aim Sports, SSC Racing, Tint Houston, Discount Tire, MSR Karting, MSR Houston, Savage Design, K1 Race Gear, and Socer4all.
